Integrating digital media into the crafting process

In this project, I explored the relationship between digital and handmade craftsmanship, with a focus on ceramics.

Besides using a throwing wheel or other hand-based techniques, different parts and motions of the body can be involved in the crafting process. Through digital technology, the creation process can be taken beyond the workbench.

By wearing sensors, motion data is collected and imported into the software, within which it is transformed into visual representations of the movement, and finally, 3D printed in clay. This produces a series of works that incorporate the patterns to represent the diversity and strength of the movement.
