Howden Works Concept
The proposed space is a nomadic, communal studio on the outskirts of Glasgow’s city centre in Tradeston.
The studio’s purpose is to provide a welcoming space to members of the public which allows the users to enhance artistic skill and boost levels of creativity. The space will include communal areas where personal projects can be worked upon in an environment specific to the needs of those working at the studio. The space will also be utilised to provide opportunities for attendees to access pastoral support for social and emotional purposes. The interiors are designed with a view to promoting hands on opportunities in making spaces. The studio will have a wealth of opportunities for attendees to work using traditional methods. While access to digital technologies is desirable, this aspect is currently out with the scope of this project
The studios will include event spaces and open areas which are open to the public on specific days and times. Events such as night classes and discussion will also be available. This is targeting a wider range of people, opening this facility up to the larger community, providing a social hub for those who maybe enjoy the social aspects of the creative workings and use it as a way to be a part of something within their community. This section of the building will be a neutral area which is able to accommodate for everyone. The surrounding communities will be the primary source of these attendees owing to the deprived areas in the immediate vicinity of the proposed site.
