My main motivation within architecture is to create sensitive and accessible designs that celebrate the richness of a site’s existing community, landscape, and history.
These projects are an exploration and critique of Glasgow’s built environment, the urban relationships that exist, and ways in which the city’s resilience for the future can be strengthend.
The Honourable Harvest
In order for the city to engage in reciprocity with the natural world, we have to form a root to our natural selves. Remembering our collective knowledge, practices of ceremony, gratitude, and care for nature will bind the city in reverence to its human and non-human inhabitants.
East End Abundance
Calton is an area rich in resources. Social resources such as the strong sense of community, shared history, and physical resources such as its diverse architectural makeup. The Barras Market is a unique and renowned amenity for finding something affordable with history and character. This should not only be protected but could be highlighted and enhanced through this scheme. As our consumer culture continues to amass waste products, we urgently need to find ways of storing repairing and reusing materials. This project proposes the future of the Barras Market as a human scale urban recycling centre.
Labour of Life
The design attempts to circulate the occupant throughout the day through spaces that allow for a multitude of labour that commonly occurs in domestic space: unpaid maintenance, the commodification of the self, and productive labour on a non-industrial scale.
