Hello! My name is Eve McNeill.
I have 4 years experience working with children and young people with disabilities. This sparked my interest in inclusive design which I am fortunate to have studied part time through Politecnico di Milano along side my degree at GSA. I am currently learning British Sign Language and have recently completed BSL Level One.
My area of interest is design for public services and third sector. I am passionate about empowering experts by experience through storytelling and challenging social inequality through participatory design.

beyond
The British sign language (BSL) plan 2017-2023 sets out actions to help ensure deaf and deafblind BSL users are fully involved in all aspects of daily and public life. This project builds on the BSL plan with a focus on deaf culture.
beyond is a social media and events company that brings Deaf and hearing people together over shared interests. It aims to help build relationships between deaf and hearing communities, to facilitate the sharing of skills and knowledge across cultures. As well as one to one connections, beyond allows people to find or propose events with partner venues.
Anonymous use of data allows partner venues to cater directly to the people attending a specific event, rather than the wider public. Partner venue staff receive awareness training supported by “beyond awareness cards” which means staff are better able to adapt to different scenarios without attendees being singled out as Deaf or hearing.
The increased number of events celebrating Deaf culture in the mainstream increases awareness in wider society and creates opportunities for BSL learners to engage with the Deaf community in natural and non-transactional ways. The service also increases demand for Deaf hospitality & events staff, and performers in venues around Scotland.
