This collection of contemporary prints for textiles and materials has been designed for interior applications. Inspired by form, shape, colour and texture found in brutalist architecture, aspects of concrete surface details and urban environments have been captured through collage, colour work and digital exploration. The collection uses combinations of digital, screen printing and dye sublimation. Material exploration has been undertaken onto various substrates including linen, cotton, leather, plywood, cork, papers and ceramic tiles. This has resulted in an exciting collection of alternative surface concepts for interior products.

Alternative Surfaces

I’m interested in researching and experimenting the different ways in which I can apply pattern to surfaces. By branching out from only using fabric for my final designs, I wanted to experiment with other materials such as ceramics, leather, cork, papers, and wood. By doing this, it has made me appreciate the versatility of textile design, whilst also gaining more experience learning new techniques. For this project, I wanted to use as much scrap/waste materials as possible, which links to my DHT research – sustainable designing.
