Xinyu Huang
Beginning with the strong sense of the complexity and fragility of the world where I live, my practice tends to explore self-awareness of individuals in the dramatically changing world and the irresistible passage of time, and somehow reflect on the evolution of humanity.
Specializing in photography, my current work focuses on my perception of my inner-self and the external world, involving personal memory, mental health, emotions, and the deconstruction of space and time. Through experimental and research-based approaches, I am exploring the vulnerability of physical existence.
Into the Ocean
Photobook
Into the Ocean is a metaphorical visual and textual narrative, inspired by train trips I have taken without a specific destination, through which I sought to escape from my chaotic life. A cathartic journey of escape and healing based on those moments when the barriers of time and space are broken, which left me feeling a potent sense of inner peace.
Murmur
Film Photography, Publication, Collage
Comprised of three chapters, Murmur is a visual exploration and deconstruction of space, time, and perception based on my physical awareness and mental activities during periods of insomnia, through which I aim to reconstruct a perceptual world without boundaries. It seemed to me like I was hearing murmurs from the depths of the universe provoking me into thinking about the fragility of our physical existence.
