The chosen substance of work interpreters the foundations of a ship that I hold dear to myself, the ship is the Carrick. The reason I have selected this as my subject matter is due to the bond and relation for oneself to have for another, when I was younger I grew up near Irvine harbor next to the Maritime Museum and there is always one ship left to bear on the drydock which was the Carrick. I have seen every time I went to the sea then one day disappeared, it brought me down and fell there was something missing which gave me the inspiration to fill this void.

During my practice I have mainly focused on screen printing, I have tried to unroll a better understanding of this process through my practice. I’ve done this by using the squeegee as my brush and the paper as a canvas, as pain especially the screen, and encouraging randomization of the pain to go freely making defects or marks. I did this because it brought on the surface of the paper and texturized the boundaries of the landscape that is created. The screen prints fill the void of a place that is not here nor there but something in between that conceives the surrounds of reality but also the confusion of imagination as each wash is applied it unearths a trapped layer from the next.

I am so excited about the build-up to the degree show, and now it is here. All the hard work from our whole year has definitely paid off.
