Sally Jennings (She/her)
In the small moments of the day, quotidian experiences are often akin to spiritual ascension. There is something spiritually powerful about simple, quiet moments and, similarly, minimal, abstract objects. My practice documents an attempt to translate the transcendental moments of the everyday into a visual language. I like to play around with symbols; images which look like they should mean something but sometimes don’t. What happens when we can’t make out a symbol – when they are just beyond reach? Are they still intelligible or do they become part of the textural surface? The painted surface disguises these symbols, revealing morsels of their original form and language to the viewer.
To be on this earth is to be constantly grappling with the phenomena around us, always searching for answers…
…but we never really find any.
