Ryan Morton (he/him)

I am a Glasgow based artist aiming to better understand my reality and the environment around me, visually and conceptually, which I make use of primarily oil and acrylic paint but also film, photography and printmaking. I use the medium of paint to create a response to my own interpretation of the various spaces which I encounter every day, through the home to the studio to the workplace in the early morning hours, stitching them into a world of my own making for me to explore further. This results in images which provoke an immersive and emotional experience through the usage of post-industrial spaces, the lonely stairwells, walkways and train stations which become haunted as the night creeps up and life becomes absent. I explore the relentless nature of our lives in the decay of the neoliberal consensus which moves without pause, the political and mental implications that this has on the real world and for our emotional state of being. I bring this together through the eyes of myself, and the character which acts as the vessel for you to experience the work, as my arm reaches out into a world I’ve created and for you to interpret.
