Joanna Stawnicka (she/her)
I use the medium of photography to overlay physical reality with the invisible realms of inner landscapes, dreams, and individual and collective memories. With the human psyche at the heart of my interest, I’m inspired by the tensions and strange encounters between inner and outer worlds, mundane and extraordinary.
In a world of overstimulation by external information, I question if enough attention is given to the little streams of information coming from within. Through photography, text, and installation, I highlight their existence and challenge the absurdity of one standard perception of what is considered normal or real.
My work combines diaristic photography with performative and sculptural elements and raises an open-ended question of whether it belongs to truth or fiction.
