My collection focuses on translating surface qualities and structures from shells into knitted textiles. The asymmetric and irregular forms of shells inspired my use of varying scales of pattern and construction as well as colour and materials used in my textiles. Using both Dubied and domestic knitting machines, several of my samples explore manipulating and embellishing knitted fabrics by hooking them onto a domestic machine, as well as unusual techniques for linking knitted textiles together by hand or by machine. My samples are visualised in a fashion context and this has been taken into consideration throughout my project and dictated the development of many of my samples. With the exception of small amounts of elastic, my collection is entirely knitted from natural fibres such as viscose, cotton and wool.
