Natalie Dawson (She/Her)

Although also interested in documentary photography, I am a recently graduated photographic artist predominantly working with landscape photography, exploring the relationship between journeys, landscape and our emotions. Since 2021 I have been exploring the landscape of the Yorkshire Dales in a journey of personal significance to reconnect to the experience of losing my late father. Whilst also working on other collaborative publications, I aim to communicate my projects through narrative and editorial design.

As Far as Half the Time Left

This project, ‘As Far As Half The Time Left’, predominantly explores the symbiotic relationship between journeys, landscape and our emotions. Inspired by my late fathers love of the Yorkshire Dales, I undertook a series of walks to try and reconnect with both him and the place where he grew up. Sadly, I never had the opportunity to visit these places with him. Through this pilgrimage of sorts, I hope to collect fragments of the landscape and start to piece together the experiences that lay on the threshold of reality and memory.

Documentation of Glasgow’s Climate Protests

On the 5th and 6th on November 2021, two climate protests were held in the streets of Glasgow as the public’s response to the 26th UN Climate Change Conference talks that were being held in the city. My aim was to document the events of these two days, capturing the spirit of those protesting and the full magnitude of this event.

ACT NOW: A Documentation of Glasgow’s Climate Protests (Publication)

On the 5th and 6th on November 2021, two climate protests were held in the streets of Glasgow as the public’s response to the 26th UN Climate Change Conference talks that were being held in the city, which brought together 120 world leaders. The ‘Fridays for Future’ march on the 5th, started by notable activist Greta Thunberg, saw school students striking to participate in the demonstration. Then the 6th of November, the ‘Global Day of Action for Climate Justice’ drew in participants from all over the country, accumulating to an estimated 100,000+ people, making it the largest protest that the city has ever seen. The events were aimed at demonstrating a need to move climate discussions away from the enclosed spaces that are unrepresentative of the people most affected by climate change. This publication aims to commemorate the events of these two days, showcasing the work of some of the photographers that documented this important part of the history in our fight to end the climate crisis and shed light on the injustices disproportionately affecting communities across the world.

This projects is a collaborative project with MA Burgoyne and contains submissions of photographs taken at the event by 10 different photographers.
