CLYDEBUILT AGAIN

CLYDEBUILT AGAIN

The Thesis aims to restore Industry to Govan, with a focus on job creation and developing the centre of the district. This will be achieved with a large scale factory offering mass employment and skills training. The Factory will produce blades for Tidal turbines, this is a new industry with great potential for Scotland and further afield. Through producing this Govan is reconnecting with the Clyde, but in a future facing industry.

In addition work spaces for independent makers will form an exciting street scape leading down to the Clyde. By providing a variety of unit sizes (Small/ Medium and Large) new business owners will be able to grow and adapt through the differing scales of unit.

This exercise in scale is important to the scheme as history has shown that single large employment is not a sustainable model for districts such as Govan. In order to provide longevity new businesses in diverse fields need to be provided for and encouraged to flourish. Through the Small / Medium and Large units new practices can form within Govan. Furthermore, the Extra Large (Factory) anchors the site with civic scale and high footfall, while the S/M/L units provide variety and attraction outside of work.

There is a symbiosis to the success of these elements. They are able to enrich each other.
