In Finland men have to start military service when they turn 18 years. The service will normally take a year and you are only allowed to go home during

certain weekends. The service is mandatory for all men and there are very limited ways to get out of it. You can do civil service wich means charity work for the government or if a doctor sees you unable to do the service. If you refuse to go it is seen as breaking the law and you will face a suspended prison sentence.

I am personally against the military service and war in general. I havent done the service yet and I am not planning on doing it either. After I graduate from this course, if I go back to Finland, I am required to do the service which is why this collection has a personal meaning to me.

Taking inspiration from old military clothes but not in the classic sense. The collection will include the sense of timelesness and longevity that military clothing has, giving  a sustainable approach. In contrast, the collection’s colour palet will include a lot of whites which represent peace, surrendering and vulnerability.

This collection is a representation of the fight against the society, fight against the war and a sophisticated way of giving the finger to the Finnish government.

This collection is all about a pacifist outlook, love and bringing peace to the world without violence. I think this collection has become even more relevant with the injustice happening in Ukraine right now, which is horrible and devastating. Finland has also been in a war with Russia in the past which puts the country in a difficult position and brings a lot of uncertainty.
