Emma Campbell (She/Her)

Slowing down and embracing curiosity, my collection explores the inconspicuous and eclectic beauty hidden in everyday environments from my home to charity shops and markets. Exploring the juxtaposing surfaces found in my photography, materiality and tactility became inherent to my embroidery practice, experimenting with contrasting colours and qualities such as the density and structural nature of leather to the transparent lightness of beads, jewellery, and sheer smocked surfaces. Adopting an ‘in process’ approach, I’ve discovered through making, resulting in a collection of eclectic, sensory textiles – a treasure trove of movement, material and colour, a series of oddities which come together to form one collection, intended for a fashion or accessory context as one-off statement pieces. Considering responsible design, I’ve sourced materials from scrapstores to donations, and previous projects, such as deconstructing old jewellery, hoping to instil value and desirability into items that would normally go unnoticed.
